Once you receive the recovered indirects, they become institutional funds. These funds can be used in accordance with your institutional policies. There are no additional restrictions put onto the recovered indirects.

Subject: [RESADM-L] Indirect cost recovery - restrictions on use

Hello,

Are there any restrictions on the use of indirect costs earned through federal grants? For example, we set aside 25% of the indirect costs recovered for PIs and 50% for the school to use for further research efforts. If some of the indirect costs recovered were used to hire a person to apply for grants, would that be allowable?

Thank you,
