There are no regulations that would dictate how you spend the indirect cost (F&A) revenue your university earns. Every institution has different methods for how they allocate the revenue internally, so whatever you decide is a university preference.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [RESADM-L] Indirect cost recovery - restrictions on use

This is an external email. Use caution responding, opening attachments and following links.

Hello,

Are there any restrictions on the use of indirect costs earned through federal grants? For example, we set aside 25% of the indirect costs recovered for PIs and 50% for the school to use for further research efforts. If some of the indirect costs recovered were used to hire a person to apply for grants, would that be allowable?

Thank you,

Angela Carron
