Beth, If you separate out the $0 balance issue, when a grant comes to the end of its program period certain reports are due within a certain time period. If the work is not yet complete, a no cost extension will allow time to do so and provide the time for an orderly submission of the reports. I would ask! Larry From: Research Administration List [mailto:xxxxxx@lists.healthresearch.org] On Behalf Of Cara Lenz Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2015 12:16 PM To: xxxxxx@lists.healthresearch.org Subject: [RESADM-L] FW: No Cost Extension - No Grant Funds Remaining Hi, Everyone! We had a question from a client that I was hoping to get some feedback on. They have an NIH award nearing the end of the original award period and would like to request a one-year no cost extension to continue working on the project; however, they have expended all of the grant funds. They will continue supporting the project with their own funds. If they have spent all of the award funds, will they still be allowed to have the one-year no cost extension? Or will NIH require them to close the award since the award has been spent? My initial thought is that if there is work remaining in order to complete the original programmatic objectives of the program that they could continue the work even if the grant is expended. But I would like to get some feedback from others, esp. those who may have experienced a similar situation. Please feel free to respond directly to me. Thanks!
