Re: Transferring grants and grant related equipment Mary Watson 26 Oct 1998 16:12 EST

We've had a number of transfers. Some smooth and some complicated. You
need to take care if you have contributed to the purchase of equipment just
where the titles lies. Do you want to send off equipment that belongs to
your school? Should it stay with you or will you work a deal for some
financial adjustment?

With some grants the equipment is the institution's and cannot be
transferred even if the PI thinks it should. Better read the fine print
before you begin.

*Good Day!
*
*I would like to hear from you regarding your experience with
*transferring grants and grant-related equipment from one institution
*to another. We have dealt with the straightforward transfer of a
*grant. However, now we have the question of transferring equipment
*which was acquired through an equipment grant proposed by
*a single investigator for very specific work. The University cost-shared
*one third of the acquisition cost of the equipment. The investigator is
still
*currently funded by the same agency and is moving to a new institution.
*
*Have you had a similar situation where the equipment is being moved?
*Who paid for moving the equipment? Did the new institution provide any
*reimbursement for the cost of acquiring the equipment (i.e., did the new
*institution repay the old institution a portion of the cost-share that had
been
*required to win the equipment grant)?
*
*Your "war" stories will be greatly appreciated.
