At Henry Ford Health System, our Research Committee is responsible for
assigning research space in labs.  The Director of Research, chair of the
Research Committee  is the "landlord". Annually  researchers send in a
utilization survey showing their FTE and $s to support their space.  This
is the time additional space can be requested. The results of the
survey are ranked from 1-10 on utilization.  Programs with 9 or 10
points may receive additional space. Those with one or two may
lose, 3-4 may be required to share for the next year, 5-8 get to maintain..
The Space Committee (which is made up of research peers, one
Department Chair, the director and me)  using this data makes space
assignment recomendations to the Research Committee.
