Academic Administrator
Department of Pathology
The University of Maryland, School of Medicine/Department of
Pathology, has an immediate opening for an experienced Academic
Administrator to provide general leadership in the department in
the areas of financial management, strategic, long-range goals,
related research and clinical activities. This position will be
responsible for the clinical practice, including managed care and
Medical Service Plan issues, and will participate in the
management of the private practice laboratory involving
interaction with all clinical departments, private market
customers and regulatory offices. The Administrator will be
responsible for all grant accounts within the department as well
as overall fiscal and program design and viability and act as a
resource for start-up initiatives. Other primary duties for this
position include:
* Assisting with the administration of the Practice Plan budget
(including faculty salary issues, travel plans, etc.)
* Overseeing a combination of clinical research and teaching
departments.
* Preparing and administering financial reporting systems
including: departmental budget, practice plan, faculty and
auxiliary enterprises, grant accounts, procurement processes
and departmental revenue.
* Develop and maintain policies and actions to support pre and
post award research; interact with grantors, OSPA, business and
finance; directly assist and represent faculty as necessary in
obtaining awards.
* Manage the department revenue in conjunction with the Chair;
assist the Chair with all personnel decisions and actions.
* Serve on Committees as assigned by the Dean.
* Manage department operations with regard to renovation and
maintenance projects.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in business management
or related field, (MBA or related Masters degree preferred).
Requires five years of related experience including experience
with professional accounting or auditing work in a health care
environment. Preferred candidate will have a strong financial
background, (CPA a plus). Candidates should be computer literate
with a knowledge of various software packages (to include:
Windows 95, WordPerfect, MS Word, Lotus, Excel, etc.). Excellent
written and oral communication skills a must. Candidates must
have a demonstrated ability in compiling and analyzing statistical
and financial information and reports. Prior administrative
experience in a medical school or university a plus.
