Re: Additional Compensation for Salaried Staff

Larry,
Each employee still has only 100% effort - not hours. While I totally understand the additional hours required for the job, it still adds up to 100% effort. If they receive additional compensation, then we would apply the splits to the total compensation. Just be careful not to dilute the committed grant effort too much.
Good luck!
Karen

Subject: [RESADM-L] Additional Compensation for Salaried Staff
We’re getting so good at doing more and more with less and less - pretty soon we’ll be able to do everything with nothing!
With the downsizing that we are going through due to State budget cuts, Federal budget cuts, sequestration, continuing resolutions, etc., we have salaried staff who are beginning to request additional compensation for long hours. While I understand the Federal Circulars and University policy, to some extent these seem to be unusual times which I hope we get over someday.
Are any of you seeing the same and, if so, how are you addressing it?
How flexible are you and what is allowable within your institutional policy?
Larry
