Paul,
The % FTE depends on the normal credit load for that department. In many
of our departments, the average load is 36 quarter credits per year, so
each four-credit course constitutes 11.1% FTE. In departments with heavy
laboratory or other student contact hours, the average annual load is 30
credits (so a 3-credit buy-out is 10%, etc.).
