After speaking (emailing?) with about 2 dozen list members regarding this
issue, I've determined that the "codes" that everyone's talking about are
actually just the HTML code that's included with some people's emails.
Unfortunately, there's no much I can do with the listserv to alleviate
this; it's a setting on the originating member's PC to include an HTML copy
of an email note in HTML form with the text form so that the receiving mail
client can choose which one to use and which to ignore. However, when this
information ends up in a digest, it gets kind of contorted. Single
messages seem to work better than digests, as with digests some mail
clients get confused with the multiple HTML sections in the digest.
I have an email into support, but I'm not expecting much. My
recommendation is that if you're encountering this issue with digests,
switch to mail mode and create a folder in your email client and auto-file
the messages into the folder. (That's what I do....) If you're already in
mail mode, see if you have a setting that will allow you to parse the HTML
in the emails - - it'll all look better with that turned on (most sites
have that turned off for security purposes though).
In the emantime, I'll find out if the product allows me to filter out all
HTML content.
