If your foundation is a unit under Pittsburgh Technical College, then you don't need to register separate from the college & you should use your college's UEI.

Hi everyone,

I reached out to the listserv a couple of months ago to ask if our newly established education foundation needs a separate SAM registration from our college. As I began to work on the registration, I am seeing this language on the SAM website: “If you do not want to apply directly for awards, then you do not need a registration. If you only conduct certain types of transactions, such as reporting as a sub-awardee, you may not need to complete a registration. You may only need a Unique Entity ID.”

Here is my question: is it possible for our College to be the prime awardee applying directly for awards, and then the Foundation can be a sub-awardee? Then, I would instead only apply for a UEI for the Foundation.

It may seem like I am trying to get out of doing two registrations, but because of the delays that have been happening with processing registrations, I am hoping that the Foundation can simply be a sub-awardee. Honestly, I don’t anticipate that the Foundation will be applying for many federal awards. However, I want to follow the proper procedures, which is why I’m reaching out here.
