Effort Reporting for Affiliated Institutions Anne Habel 08 Dec 1999 15:24 EST

I need some assistance form institutions that meet the following
criteria:

Institutions that have an affiliation with another institutions. For
example, a hospital that is affiliated with a university.
Faculty/doctors have a joint appointment with both institutions.
Both institutions must be private and have separate legal identities.
Both institutions share a campus or location.

I need to know how these institutions handle payroll payments and effort
reporting. For example, do the doctors/faculty have the option to choose
to be paid from either institution? If being paid from institution A,
and performing sponsored effort for institution B, how does institution
B go about certifying effort when they have no access to the total
payroll distribution and therefore cannot calculate percent of effort?
And do any institutions have a, "inexpensive but effective" effort
reporting software or homegrown systems using Excel or Access.

I am currently enrolled in a compliance course at a local college. I
have chosen this topic for a presentation project. Any information would
be much appreciated.
