UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS LOWELL Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations Job Description ____________________________________________________________________________ __ General Description The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations reports directly to the Director of Development. The purpose of this position is to plan, direct, implement and evaluate programs for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporate and foundation gifts. Specific Responsibilities Specific duties of the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations include the following: 1. Cultivate and solicit foundation and corporate gift prospects through partnerships with key faculty or alone. 2. Develop, write and submit fundraising proposals, budgets and supporting materials with the objective of maximizing gifts and grants from current and new institutional funders from the corporate and foundation ranks. 3. Oversee the budget associated with the cost center for the corporate and foundation relations area. 4. Maintain a proactive roll in all efforts to improve the organization's process of identifying special projects with private funding potential. 5. Expand on current relationships with the University's corporate partners that exist primarily at the sponsored research, grants and contracts levels to include affiliations which simultaneously build on business-to-business research and support and philanthropic support. 6. Develop strategies for specific industry components within the various colleges, centers and institutes. 7. Work closely with the Director of Prospect Research in the expansion and refinement of corporate and foundation prospect lists for the overall university and for individual programs, projects and services. 8. Develop and sustain a centrally coordinated database for foundation and corporate files, records and reports. 9. Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with the deans, key faculty and counterparts in the industrial partnership, intellectual properties and technology transfer areas to foster their involvement in the proposal creation and prospect identification process. Communicate regarding potential funding sources for academic program needs. 10. Work closely with the Director of Alumni Relations to explore and target potential prospects that may exist through alumni employees at middle management or higher positions with the corporate/business/industry sectors. 11. Work with Director of Annual Giving to plan, coordinate and evaluate the matching gifts and annual corporate partners program. 12. Coordinate and prepare all written proposal materials and presentations for foundations and corporations. Integrate the corporate and foundation promotional viewpoint as appropriate in related fund-raising advocacy materials. 13. Supervise an Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. 14. Take on other responsibilities as appropriate. Candidate Qualifications The Director of Corporate/Foundation Relations should possess: 1. Baccalaureate or higher degree. 2. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible fund-raising experience, preferably in the corporate and foundation relations arena within higher education. 3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 4. Ease in interpersonal relationships. 5. Organizational ability, task orientation and timeliness. 6. Ability to create and nurture productive working partnerships internally and externally. 7. Understanding of the complexity of the corporate and foundation worlds. 8. Flexibility to travel, the majority of which will be regional in scope. Weekend and evening work will occasionally be necessary. 9. Affinity with the overall mission of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Compensation: Very competitive salary.
