Re: P/S Grants -- has anyone heard from the beta sites

Note that P/S GRANTS requires P/S Financials 7.5. This is one reason why
Michigan, while a development partner on GRANTS, cannot use the system.
We have only Financials 6.0. Vanderbilt, Princeton, and Colorado were the
primary
beta testers. I do not think any of them will be implementing GRANTS very
soon
because they do not have 7.5. Michigan was not given access to the Beta
version
at first and then when the offer was made, we had insufficient resources
to participate.
Thus I cannot report on what improvements have been made over the pre-beta
version
we did test. The system will prepare only NSF and NIH applications now but
later versions are supposed to add further sponsors. Development partners
who
cannot use the system can get a single user evaluation version. We will do
this
in order to determine if it will fit our needs. Our post award evaluatiors
thought
very highly of the system. It helped solve many of the problems in the 6.0
General Ledger. Our pre-award evaluators of the pre-beta were not as
pleased but
I have heard many of their complaints have been addressed. The multiple
layers
and id numbers for a single proposal was one area that may have been fixed.
Organizers of NCURA or SRA conventions should provide for a session for
participants in the two large proposal processing systems-- GRANTS and
GAMS--
to compare what they can do.
