University at Albany Position Announcement The Research Foundation of State University of New York University at Albany ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY Applications are invited for consideration for appointment to the following position on the University at Albany campus: Budget Title: Descriptive Title: Research Compliance Officer Posting No. Department: Office for Research _______ Rank and Salary Range: $40,000 - $50,000 Date To Be Filled: ASAP Description of Duties: Serve as the institutional official for research compliance matters and act as a resource and facilitator for the University research community. Coordinate compliance and policy development activities, primarily in the area of human subject research, with some involvement in animal research compliance. Develop training and education programs in conjunction with University faculty and staff for all aspects of research ethics, including misconduct in science. Supervise 2 staff assigned to support research compliance efforts. Negotiate agreements with collaborating institutions and regulatory agencies. Duties include: provide programmatic support and oversight of the mission of the Institutional Review Board (the University entity assigned with the protection of human subjects participating in research programs); develop and deliver education and training programs for University researchers; serve as primary administrator for conduct of research policies and procedures; communicate and support staff and committees responsible for research compliance activities. Qualifications: A Master's degree in a field (e.g., human services, biology, social sciences, public health) appropriate to the duties indicated above is required or a Bachelors with seven years related experience. Experience and/or familiarity with social and behavioral and/or biomedical research are desired. Previous experience with an Institutional Review Board is desired. An understanding of ethical principles guiding research and excellent communication are skills are required. An ability to develop, interpret, and apply policies and regulations in a fair, reasonable, and service-oriented manner is required.
