Departmental Information:
The Vice President for Research, Creative Activities and Technology
Transfer is responsible for developing and maintaining a thriving
environment for faculty and student research, as well as other creative and
scholarly acitivities at the University. The faculty's success in garnering
outside research support is facilitated by this office and has grown quite
significantly in the past five years to $52 million per year. Additional
responsibilities of the Office are creating and administering all policies
associated with research, creative activities and technology transfer,
including scientific misconduct, animal and human subject work and
intellectual property. The Office is responsible for the University's
federal relations, including all agencies and the Montana Congressional
delegation. It works closely with the governor and various state agencies
as well as with the private sector and the growing high tech business
community in Bozeman and the state.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Will design and implement an aggressive program of services to MSU faculty
to help them find outside funding for their programs and to assist them
with their funding sources once they have obtained funding; responsible for
designing and implementing a customer service model for the Pre and Post
Award offices; will identify methods to redirect administrative duties from
faculty to office staff.
Required Qualifications
1. Bachelors degree.
2. Supervisory experience.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
1. An advanced degree, preferably a terminal degree.
2. Progressively responsible experience as a professional in a university
or other research setting.
3. Substantial experience in grant writing.
4. Computer literacy and knowledge of web-based delivery models for grant
services.
5. Experience in creating and providing faculty service in Pre and Post
Award areas at a research university or research facility.
The Successful Candidate Will:
Be knowledgeable of national trends and research opportunities, be well
versed in granstmanship and possess strong leadership skills; will be able
to work independently, exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills, relate
well to a variety of constituents (especially faculty scholars) and have a
thorough knowledge of the grants process.
