Re: Responses To Accounting Systems For Sponsored Programs Stephen Gray 28 May 1999 10:07 EST
Jim - DePaul University is considering the integrated systems financial package that is being developed by PeopleSoft. I'm a newcomer to Research Administration and heard about this at last fall's NCURA convention. At a recent PeopleSoft demo at DePaul, they described a fully-integrated set of modules, including PeopleSoft Grants, that would be networked with the university General Ledger, Purchasing, Human Resources, Enrollment Management, etc. The Grants software was delivered in Beta version to Princeton, University of San Francisco, University of Colorado, and Vanderbilt on May 10th, 1999. Perhaps you might contact someone at these institutions who, once the cyber dust settles, could give you more specific information on the integrated accounting systems. The PeopleSoft website is: http://Checkers.peoplesoft.com/collatrl.nsf/WEBISHE?OpenView&Expand=1.1 Stephen Gray, Ph.D. Grants Information Coordinator Office of Sponsored Programs & Research DePaul University (773) 325-2593 xxxxxx@wppost.depaul.edu >>> "Ball, Jim" <xxxxxx@OSU.EDU> 05/28/99 09:27AM >>> I am still receiving responses regarding my recent post. It is clear to me that there is no commercially available accounting software tailored specifically to the needs of sponsored programs at present. From what I have gathered so far, recent implementations of accounting systems at universities have required various levels of customization, modification, alteration, work-arounds, and/or varying degrees of frustration to accomodate sponsored programs. If anyone else can share other experiences different than this, please let me know. I will respond directly to those who asked specific questions sometime next week. Thanks for the responses so far!
