Consortium and travel Belman, Phillip 03 May 1999 15:05 EST

I have two questions that I'm hoping I can get some help with.

I have a research associate who will be here for Year 1 of a new grant, but
for Year 2 she will be in Australia. She will require supply money as well
as salary and benefits??. Since this research associate will be working for
another institution in Australia, can, or should I treat her Year 2 expenses
as a consortium?

Related to that issue, the PI and one other person plan on making two trips
annually to Australia at a cost of about $2K a head. For one of the trips,
the PI plans on staying for up to two weeks. This will require a rather
large travel budget. Are large travel budgets normally approved with proper
justification, or would there be a problem with this.

Thank you.
