Thanks for the input. I ran this option through someone in a similar
position as mine who had been with the university for a while, and she
had never heard of such a thing. I'd like to look into this a little
further though because it would also be an avenue to pay Research
Associates (post-docs) who could provide assistance to the liaison
program as well. We've had opportunities where we could have used these
people on projects, but we were unable to compensate them (above their
regular paycheck). They lose interest pretty quickly.
We've found it really frustrating to try and do business when we have an
interested industrial party but we are unable to perform the work due to
the inability to compensate people who assist us.
What sort of form or method do you use at your university to issue a
cash award? I'd like to run this by our Human Resources office and
Payroll office. I've search through all of our guidelines and I could
not find anything of this nature.
