The Texas Chapter of the Society of Research Administrators will meet at UT Southwestern in Dallas on April 9. The registration fee is $35. Anyone interested is invited to attend. The program will run from 9:00 to 3:00 and will include:
NIH update presented by Gary Thompson, assistant grants policy officer, NIH, covering administrative and policy issues, budget and legislative mandates, institutional compliance, modular applications and awards, reinvention, and electronic research administration;
Funding opportunities available through the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, presented by Elda Railey, the foundation director of grants;
Discussion of changes planned for the 1999 competition of the Texas Advanced Research and Advanced Technology Programs, presented by Linda Domelsmith, director of research programs at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board;
How to evaluate performance of the sponsored projects office, presented by Jay McMillen, assistant director of research services, Texas Tech University;
Issues in technology transfer as they relate to administration of sponsored projects, presented by Ray Wheatley, Director of Technology Development, UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Because most of those attending will not stay overnight, we have not arranged for a block of rooms. For those who do arrive early we will have a pre-meeting meeting (otherwise known as happy hour) at Mestizzo's Grille at the Radisson at 6:15 on April 8.
