Competition with Private Sector Sharon Armbrust 14 Mar 1999 21:47 EST

This inquiry accompanies my earlier message concerning "Design/Build
Projects and Liability".

An additional concern with these projects is competition with the
private sector. While most projects are with local community
organizations, projects are also proposed that we believe might
compete with architects in the private sector.

While competition with the private sector has long been considered
inappropriate for an educational institution, especially a public
institution, one can hear/read that universities are increasingly
being encouraged to move in this direction.

Any thoughts or comments on this? If your university has a policy on
non-competition with the private sector, we would be interested in the
policy. Also, if your university has been moving in the direction of
competition, your thoughts and experience would be appreciated.
