Technology Transfer Officer
Office of Industrial Programs & Technology Transfer
Auburn University invites applications for a Technology Transfer Officer to
identify, assess, protect and assure the transfer of university-owned
patented inventions, software, materials, and other potentially licensable
technologies to industry.
Duties and Responsibilities: This technology transfer professional will be
responsible for interacting with university investigators to encourage
submission of invention disclosures, evaluating commercial potential and
marketing inventions to identify licensees and/or research sponsors, and
assisting in the development of appropriate licensing strategies. The
selected candidate will also negotiate, draft and review license, research
and other agreements, and prepare periodic reports as requested.
Additionally, this professional will coordinate document preparation,
extract information from agreements for entry into licensing database and
insure that appropriate university faculty and staff are informed of and
understand the terms of relevant agreements.
Qualifications: A minimum of a Bachelors degree with a general knowledge of
technology transfer and intellectual property matters is required.
Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills are essential,
including the ability to present material in a concise and professional
manner to a wide variety of individuals and groups, including faculty,
staff, attorneys and business people. The individual must be a team player,
creative problem solver and innovative thinker. The position requires the
ability to respond to urgent matters in a timely manner and to manage
multiple projects simultaneously.
Desired: Enthusiastic candidates who have demonstrated experience in
licensing, business development or technology transfer, and experience
working in an academic environment are preferred. Familiarity with
intellectual property laws and experience in negotiation are desirable.
Marketing experience is also desirable. A technical background will be a
plus.
Salary: The hiring range for this job is $21,860 to $39,935. Salary will
be determined based on prior education, experience and competencies. AU
