More Results: Academic vs. Finance Ruth Tallman 04 Mar 1999 11:12 EST
Good day,

I've been asked to break out the numbers by funding
volume and I was interested to see it myself. (I've cut and
pasted it and included an Excel attachment.) I'm also
including the survey results again with one or two corrections.

Of those offices which are primarily pre-award, 23 out of 24
report to an academic position (one reports to development).

Of those offices which are primarily post-award, 15 out of 16
report to a finance position (one reports to both academic and
finance!).

Of those offices which are both preaward and postaward,
25 out of 27 report to an academic position (one reports to finance
and another reports to both VP/Research and VP/Finance).

The total annual dollars broke out like this:

 18 institutions averaging 1M to 20 M
 12 institutions averaging 21M to 50M
 9 institutions averaging 51M to 220M

Here is the new numbers for today:

Preaward Academic Finance Funding

10 10 $1 - 20M
3 3 $21 - 50M
3 3 $51-220M

Postaward Academic Finance Funding

4 4 $1 - 20M
1 1 $21 - 50M
1 Both $51-220M

Preaward Academic Finance Funding

7 7 $1 - 20M
8 8 $21 - 50M
7 7 $51-220M
