Compliance Officer, Institutional Review Board

 The University of Missouri - Columbia (MU) is seeking an energetic
and experienced individual to serve as Compliance Officer for the Campus
Institutional Review Board.  The Compliance Officer will monitor research
activity that involves humans as subjects and ensure compliance with
federally mandated regulations protecting the rights and welfare of the
subjects.  Additionally, they will serve as Administrator of the Campus
Institutional Review Board (IRB) and coordinate IRB review of all
non-medical research involving use of human subjects submitted by faculty
staff, and students at the University of Missouri-Columbia.  Specific duties
include (1) review and approve, according to regulatory requirements, exempt
projects, advertisements to recruit subjects, changes in consent documents,
amendments (non-medical) to existing projects, annual and continuing review
reports and emergency approvals; (2) Notify investigators of violations and
meet with them regarding sanctions; (3) Develop continuing review process
and tracking system for all extant research proposals reviewed by the IRB;
(4) Counsel investigators on the regulatory aspects of human subjects'
research; meet with research investigators and provide guidance on
regulations for areas such as informed consent and applications process; (5)
Serve as ex-officio member to the IRB.  Oversee compliance and advise of
federal regulations and university policy on use of human subjects in
research; (6) Act as central contact point for audits by regulatory
agencies; provide campus liaison with representative agencies.  Interface
with University General Counsel, Animal Care and Use Committee Compliance
group, Radiation Safety Committee, Department of Environmental Health and
Safety, and other relevant administrative and research units on campus; (7)
Develop IRB policy on regulatory matters; and (8) Provide direct supervision
to part time clerical help in the drafting, typing, filing of all IRB
documents.  Prepare data for monthly reports and continuing reviews. The
Compliance Officer will report to the Faculty Fellow in the Office of the
Vice Provost for Research.

 Preferred qualifications include a master's degree and one to two
years of experience in research activities.  Knowledge of ethics and health
law are necessary for success in this position and experience in law, public
administration, and research processing is helpful.   Salary will be
competitive.
