Generally speaking, our development office likes to handle local foundations and corporations and a FEW of the major national foundations; everything else comes through us first.  We notify them of all proposals to private foundations.

For the ones that development handles, they make sure we get a copy for our files.

We have a good relationship with our development folks (knock wood) . . . probably because we're not too concerned about overlap or turf issues.  As long as the project is a good one and has the necessary institutional approvals and we know about it, it doesn't matter who "handles" it.
