We are wondering whether any of our colleagues have established a
formalized relationship between the sponsored research office and the
development office at their respective institutions.  Is there any clear
allocation of responsibilities, particularly in respect to access to
agencies, foundations, and corporations?  Do any of you confine your
respective roles to particular types of projects, for example,  endowed
chairs, pure research, community outreach, or bricks and mortar efforts?

We are a relatively small institution and we find that our spheres of work
frequently overlap.  I would be grateful if any of you could let me know
whether you simply negotiate each situation on a case by case basis or
whether you have any written policy in place.
