Functions
Director reports to the Dean of Graduate Studies and
Research and will also work closely with other academic officers. Advise
faculty, professional staff, and others in the preparation of grant
and contract proposals, including the review of proposal narrative and
providing guidance in budget development; review proposals for
compliance with university, state, federal and sponsor guidelines and
regulations, and for quality of presentation; coordinate negotiations with
funding agencies for project modifications, budget revisions, extension
requests and project renewal; contact and meet with sponsors to discuss funding
priorities and guidelines; acquire and update a knowledge base of university,
federal, state and private funding sponsors, and communicate this information
to relevant faculty, staff and administration; organize and conduct training
and workshops; coordinate and/or write large institutional proposals; prepare
reports.
Opportunity for assuming responsibility for office budget and supervision of
staff; assisting with the encouragement and support of student research.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's degree and successful experience in
sponsored programs; outstanding communication and interpersonal
skills; computer and database experience; and an appreciation of both
instructional and research activities. Preferred: Graduate work or degree and
personal research/scholarly experience; skills with spreadsheets,
graphics, and publishing software programs.
