Model Animal Care and Use Policies & Procedures
Barbara Gray 04 Feb 1999 16:18 EST
I am looking for examples of operational policies and procedures (from
planning and procurement to disposal--and everything in between) for
animal care and use programs in institutions similar to mine.
The College of Charleston is a comprehensive university with heavy
emphasis on undergraduate teaching. We are a state institution with
approximately 9,500 undergraduate students and 1,500 graduate students.
We have about 450 roster faculty, and our sponsored programs volume is
about $4 million per year. We have no affiliation with a medical
school.
The kinds of vertebrates we normally use in research are fish (in the
laboratory) and amphibians and reptiles, generally in the wild. We
maintain rat and pigeon populations, but, right now, they are used
solely for instruction purposes, as are a few amphibians and reptiles.
If your institution is similar and if you have developed comprehensive
operational policies and procedures that work particularly well for you,
I would be very interested in receiving them. Electronic or paper
versions are welcome.
Thank you!
Barbara
