We occasionally find ourselves in a position where we have a deficit in a
sponsored project account.  In most cases, the deficit will not be covered
by the agency, and therefore, we must determine how our institution will
handle the deficit.  We are wondering how other institutions handle this
type of situation, including who is responsible for providing funding to
cover the deficit.  If you could send your response directly to me at
