Certainly, it would seem to violate COI policies for a faculty member to accept funds personally in support of a project for which the institution is also being paid.

Could the $ not be put into a gift fund available for that faculty person?  Obviously, it would not be available for salaries . . . of course, if this faculty person is valuable enough, the college might consider an increase????  What are your institution's salary and/or "incentive" policies?
