Re[2]: FIPSE Cancelation and Restoration

Sally et al.,
is the recent announcement perhaps the opening of the competition that
Congress
directed FIPSE to hold on the 14 "subject areas" in the recent legislation?
As I
understood the Chronicle article, FIPSE is mandated to hold the competition
prescribed by Congress and thus cancelled their Comprehensive Program in
order
to have sufficient funds to carry out Congress's directive.

I'd like to second the request for information on the current status of
FIPSE.
In today's (1/26/99) Federal Register, DOEd is announcing another FIPSE
competition, Learning Anywhere Anytime Partnerships. Is this real or not?

On Thursday January 14, 1999, The Chronicle of Higher Education's internet
news service reported that the US Dept. of Education was cancelling the
current round of its Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education
(FIPSE) (The story appears in this week's hard copy). However, today I have
read a forwarded e-mail which states that the Department has decided to go
forward with a limited FIPSE competition. Can anyone confirm this?
