Well . . . the debate is on again. Has the NIH changed its policy on receipt of unsolicited grants BY the deadline?
Their web site states:
An unsolicited, investigator-initiated application is considered on time if it is either (1)
received by or (2) mailed on or before the published receipt date and a proof of mailing
is provided. Proof of timely mailing consists of a legibly dated U.S. Postal Service
postmark or a dated receipt from a commercial carrier or the U.S. Postal Service. Private
metered postmarks are not acceptable. This policy also applies to unsolicited
AIDS-related applications and to AREA applications.
It goes on to say that solicited applications must be received BY the deadline.
I have encouraged our faculty to have all grants IN to the NIH by February 1 . . . was there a notice that I missed? Is the web site correct?
NIH folks, please advise.
Thanks.
