Associate Director Office of Research and Sponsored Programs The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is seeking an Associate Director for its Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. The successful candidate will have broad experience in preaward and non-financial postaward management of projects supported by federal, state, private and other sponsors. Experience in project administration, project development, and information management in a higher education institution research office is highly sought. Preferred qualifications: - Knowledge and experience in research administration in an academic setting with the ability to interpret and implement federal and non-federal regulations. - A Master's Degree, CRA certification and three years experience in research administration are preferred. Minimum qualifications: - A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. - High degree of organizational skills and problem solving with the ability to execute multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with strict deadlines. - Experience in electronic research administration (on-line databases, Fastlane, Internet resources, spreadsheets, and complex databases). - Three to five years experience in grant and contract administration and negotiating agreements with a variety of sponsors (federal, state, industry, foundation, etc.) - Strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with faculty, other administrative staff and representatives of sponsors. Essential Duties: - Non-financial project administration of externally funded research and services projects including post-award revisions, rebudgeting, no-cost extensions, re-submissions, periodic reporting and final reporting, subcontracts and close-out documentation. - Acting as liaison between University business and academic administrators, researchers/project managers, cooperating community organizations/agencies, grants accounting office, sponsors and regulatory agencies regarding budget development, project implementation and management, reporting, and closeout. - Monitoring proposals for compliance with sponsor and UALR policies, accuracy of budgetary and administrative information, assisting with preparation as necessary including completion of University and funding agency forms - Reviewing, along with the Director, each proposal to federal, state and local governments, foundations, industries and associations prior to submissions - Investigating and correlating funding opportunities with faculty interests and expertise - Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and expertise in federal, state, and other agency regulations and policies and OMB circulars (EDGAR, FAR, A-133, A-110, A-21) which affect sponsored program activities. - Assisting in providing training for the university community in proposal preparation, sponsor searching, changes in sponsor guidelines and project management within UALR policies and procedures Located in the largest metropolitan area of Arkansas, UALR is also in the geographic, cultural, economic and political center of the state. Within 10,000 students, 20% of whom are graduate and professional students, and 1,200 faculty and staff, there are ample human resources to pursue externally funded activities. Currently UALR is averaging $18M in grants and contracts and continued growth in funding is expected.
