The creation of an either or situation with respect to hard-ware and associated soft-ware is a trap. Don't buy into a mentaility that forecloses on options. You can avoid being completely vulnerable to the same market manipulation, system limitation, or virus by having multiple capabilities. Our math and computer sciences programs needs platforms that change rapidly and use different levels of applications than humanities and fine arts programs that have different areas of mastery in program application and modification. MAC drove the whole industry to provide more, better user friendly graphics. Ralph Waldo Emerson has a complete line of used "foolish consistencies" for sale cheap if you really can't deal with diversity.
