FTEs in Sponsored Research office
Mary T. Spina, CRA 04 Nov 1998 13:10 EST
I am the Director of Sponsored Research at the Illinois Institute of
Technology. Our current annual level of sponsored funding is $20 million
and our staff consists of myself, an Assistant Director and an
Administrative Assistant. We also have a couple of student workers
available at different times, primarily to update our website.
I am trying to find out the staffing levels for pre-award offices at other
institutions similar in size. Anyone willing to share this information,
please forward the information directly to me at xxxxxx@charlie.iit.edu.
I would like to know number of professional staff, the number of support
staff and student workers, and a very short description of the general
responsibilities.
How involved is your office in the proposal submission process? Is it
simply a "endorsement office" or do you assist in budget and other
administrative preparations?
Do you send out regular newsletters, notices of potential funding sources?
What services are expected from your office? What is your office actually
able to provide?
I am trying to convince our university that the office is understaffed and
any information would be VERY useful to me. If you would like to share
other information that you feel might be useful, please do!! Thanks in
advance for any help.
