Title: "Impact of Emerging Technologies on HealthCare in the 21st Century"
Date: December 3-4, 1998
Place: Knoxville, Tennessee (University of Tennessee Medical Center - Knoxville)
The focus of the program will be on 4 major areas:
(1) Patient information systems, including remote biosensors, and telemedicine;
(2) Biomaterials, including bioreactions, new synthetic alloys, vascular implants, and re-stimulation of neuronal pathways;
(3) Human genome project and its impact on pharmacogenetics and the exploding field of bioinformatics; and
(4) New developments in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers
Format is morning plenary sessions and afternoon simultaneous workshops and poster sessions.
This conference is not only for physicians, health administrators, clinical and basic science investigators, and biomedical teachers, but also for engineers and computer scientists who wish to expand their vision of the impact of technology on medicine.
Faculty are drawn from universities, hospitals, industry, and the federal government (US Senate, NCI, NIEHS). Opportunities for networking are encouraged.
