DIRECTOR OF GRANTS AND CONTRACTS

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth seeks a Director for the Office
of Grants and Contracts.  The Director has overall responsibility for the
administration of research and sponsored programs for the University,
provides leadership in developing and implementing organizational policies,
is a member of the academic council, and reports directly to the Provost.
The Director works closely with campus and UMass system officers to
administer externally funded research and sponsored programs including
pre-award and post-award assistance to faculty and oversight of
institutional compliance with government and foundation regulations
including protocol for human subjects.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, located on the southeastern
Massachusetts coast, is a comprehensive university with close to 6,000
undergraduate and graduate students.  As the only public University in the
region it is committed to the educational, economic, social and cultural
advancement of the region.  The University comprises five colleges:
Business and Industry, Engineering, Nursing, Visual and Performing Arts,
and Arts and Sciences.  Faculty research and grant awards have doubled over
the past five years and the University is poised for greater development in
this area.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, supervisory and
managerial skills, a demonstrated record of achievement in the
administration and negotiation of a full range of grants and contracts in
an academic setting, and vision and creativity for developing new
directions and resources for funding.  Experience with electronic research
administration.  A master's degree and extensive experience in academic
research administration is required.  An earned doctorate is preferred.  A
thorough knowledge of cost accounting principles and expertise in contract
negotiation, conflict of interest and intellectual property issues are
required.
