Director, Office of Research Administration
The University of Oklahoma invites nominations and applications for the
position of Director of the Office of Research Administration. The
University is a major, national research university with 20,000 students
and 900 faculty on the Norman Campus, including a substantial number of
researchers with national and international reputations. Sponsored
program activity for the University totaled in excess of $130 million
for fiscal year 1998 with faculty and staff on the Norman Campus
generating over $70 million of this amount. For more information on the

The Director provides administrative leadership for the Office and
reports directly to the Vice President for Research-Norman Campus. The
Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and
coordinating the administrative and operational activities of the Office
of Research Administration, including the support areas of research
information services, proposal development and award negotiation and
administration. The Director ensures institutional compliance with
government regulations related to sponsored research activities
involving human subjects, animal care and use, conflict of interest,
scientific integrity, and biosafety. The Director encourages and
supports faculty and staff in research endeavors, facilitates the
development of interdisciplinary and intercampus research endeavors, and
communicates effectively the research role of the University with
federal and state officials and the general public.
Candidates must have the following qualifications:
C Demonstrated leadership and prior successful administrative
experience in a research environment.
C The ability to work constructively and communicate effectively
with constituencies, both inside and outside the University.
C Commitment to research excellence and innovation.
C Knowledge and understanding of state and federal regulations and
national trends affecting academic research.
C Familiarity with public (state and federal) and private research
funding sources.
C Awareness and understanding of the range of disciplines and
diversity of a major research university.
C A vision for the future of the Office and an ability to work in
a climate of change.
C Demonstrated knowledge and ability in electronic research
administration: on-line databases, NSF FastLane and other transaction
sets, and the Internet.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and
qualifications.
