The Office of the Vice President for Research at Ohio University has

DIRECTOR OFFICE of RESEARCH & SPONSORED PROGRAMS

Ohio University seeks nominations or applications for the position of
Director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.  The
Director has principal responsibility for all pre-award grant and
contract management activities at the university.  These
responsibilities include 1) educating the university community about
funding opportunities and the grant application and management
process; 2) directing the preparation of external grant/contract
applications and the negotiation of all externally-funded grants and
contracts; 3) and coordinating post-award contract compliance and
reporting to sponsoring agencies.  In addition, the Director assists
the vice president and associate vice president in the management of
university-funded programs, the formulation of university policies in
matters involving research, and represents the unit on various
university committees.  The Director reports to the Associate Vice
President.

Ohio University is a Carnegie Research II university and manages over
$34 million in external awards annual.  In 1997, the university
employed 747 faculty on its Athens campus in 11 degree granting
units.  The Director is expected to achieve an understanding of the
diverse programs at the university and help the university advance
its research mission.  The office includes five professional and/or
clerical staff members.  Additional information on Ohio University

Candidates must have a MA/MS, JD or extensive experience in
administration of sponsored programs at the university level.  A
minimum of five years in university grant administration is required,
preferably in a central administrative unit.  A doctoral degree is
preferred.  Demonstrated familiarity with the legal, regulatory, and
fiscal issues within the field of grants and contract administration
is essential.  Important characteristics of the successful candidate
will include strong leadership and communications skills, negotiation
experience, and the ability to motivate and assist faculty, staff,
and students in achieving their scholarly goals.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and
qualifications.  Review of applications will begin August 17, 1998
