Rereading Mary's original posting, she asked about establishing services for grantwriting and proposal facilitation/coordination.  I took that to mean her "Sponsored Projects Office" didn't already do those things which are part and parcel to our office (and, it seems, yours).  Research Administration is such a fuzzy area, that it is hard to know what each institution's office does.  I have talked to people whose pre-award office does nothing except ensure the budget is reasonable and the certs and reps are there.

I find this an interesting interpretation of my posting.  I didn't think
the question had to do with assisting faculty in all the ways herein
described.  I thought it had to do with dedicated grant writers, or
"hired guns".
