Position Announcement
Sponsored Programs Administration Development Specialist
The Sponsored Programs Administration Development Specialist is
responsible for the daily operations and dissemination of the
external funding area of the Office of Sponsored Programs.
The major responsibility is to ensure that faculty and staff
receive information on a timely basis to pursue external funding
via electronic mail, campus mail or Sponsored Programs home page.
This position also serves as Regulatory Compliance officer for the
University's Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human
Subjects in Research. Under this role the incumbent advises faculty,
staff and students in the IRB application process. Ensure
university-wide compliance with federal regulations governing human
subject research.
The Grants Information Specialist responsibilities include maintaining
a comprehensive up-to-date library on government, corporate, and
foundation sponsors including program guidelines, application kits,
financial data, agency personnel information, current addresses,
telephone and fax numbers. Identify funding sources via computer
searches and direct contact with funding agencies. Maintain the
Sponsored Programs web site with current funding information and other
web site linkages that provide funding sources. Prepare weekly
deadline announcements for the MSU MEMO. Coordinate workshops and
seminars designed to enhance faculty understanding of external funding
agency requirements.
Serve as the liaison officer for the University with the Office of
Federal Programs, American Association of State Colleges and
Universities. Provide regular departmental workshops on electronic
funding opportunity database, faculty expertise database and other
tools available to the University community. Attend national and state
research meetings as required. The individual filling this position
reports to the Director of Sponsored Programs and works collectively
with institutional and departmental administrators, Office of
Sponsored Programs staff and the staff and faculty of the institution
in identifying funding opportunities for the university.
A bachelor's degree is required. A masters degree is preferred.
Computer, database experience and workshop/seminar coordination essential.
Person must be self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
Ability to evaluate volumes of funding information, target potential
interest on campus and distribute in a timely fashion.
This is a professional salaried position. Compensation is established
