Copying and mailing as an inducement to timely proposal Barbara Pifel 17 Mar 1998 09:54 EST

Here at UCF, if a faculty member submits his/her proposal at least TWO
days before the deadline, we will copy and mail out the proposal.
Notwithstanding, if a proposal comes in after that, we will review the
proposal, execute the certs and reps and produce and sign the cover
letter to the sponsor. If we do not have sufficient time to review the
proposal properly, we do the very best that we can given the time
constraints. The cardinal rule is the proposal must go out even if it
comes in at the 12th hour. Although we notify the PI and note on the
routing form that we reserve the right to withdraw the proposal if our
review reveals something that would reflect negatively on UCF, it's
interesting to note, that we have never been compelled to withdraw a
proposal. I believe that faculty orientation is very important. Especially
new faculty or faculty just entering the research arena need to know
that they do not need to have the entire proposal completed before
submitting it to our office. If we can obtain a copy of the budget and the
certs and reps along with a copy of the guidelines, we are in a better
position to assist our faculty. I would appreciate comments on our
approach, both positive and negative. Thank you Barbara Pifel, Director
Sponsored Research UCF. My telephone No. is 407-823-3967. My direct
