Mississippi State University, a land-grant institution, is
Mississippi's largest university and its only Southern Regional
Education Board Doctoral I University.  Adjacent to the campus is the
Mississippi Research and Technology Park where several university
research units and corporate entities are located.  Mississippi State
University ranks 73rd in total R&D expenditures at public universities
and colleges by science and engineering fields.  For FY 95 and FY 96,
R&D expenditures approximated $72M and $84M,  respectively.  The
university has just completed a $135M major gifts campaign.

Mississippi State University is seeking an individual to direct the
Office of Sponsored Programs Administration (pre-award functions).
Responsibilities include management of the Office of Sponsored
Programs Administration; assisting faculty and staff in the
administrative and fiscal aspects of proposal preparation; reviewing
proposals for fiscal accuracy and administrative compliance;
representing the university in the negotiation of grants and
contracts; reviewing grant and contract award documents for
acceptability; and administering grant and contract award amendments.

This position reports directly to the Vice President for Research and
also serves as the liaison  between the Office of the Vice President
for Research and the Office of the Vice President for Business
Affairs, which is responsible for post-award fiscal matters.  Due to
the land-grant mission of the university there is also extensive
interaction with the Vice President for Agriculture, Forestry and
Veterinary Medicine.

Both a bachelor's degree and work experience  in university grant and
contract administration are required.  Preferred qualifications
include an MBA or professional degree, excellent communication skills,
supervisory experience, and familiarity with the land-grant university
system.  Applicants should have comprehensive knowledge of  federal
regulations relating to grants and contracts.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
