The University of Montana invites applications and nominations for the
position of Assistant Vice President for Research.  The AVP reports
directly to the Vice President for Research and Development and is
responsible for managing pre- and post-grant award activities and
facilitating the University's involvement in all sponsored programs
(grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, etc.).  Anticipated start date
is 7/1/98.

Candidate must have: bachelor's degree; background in research
administration or related field; successful record of negotiating research
funding from federal, state, and private sources; strong managerial,
communication, and organizational skills; experience in grants and
contracts budgeting, financing and expenditure reporting; working knowledge
of fund accounting and cost accounting standards; refined computer
expertise with on-line searching, Internet resources, and database,
spreadsheet, and word processing software; familiarity with federal and
state regulations, compliance requirements related to university research,
major regulatory compliance issues and documents including OMB circulars
A-21, A-110, A-87, A-122, and A-133, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and
single Audit Act requirements.  An advanced degree and/or CPA certificate
and familiarity with indirect cost rate development in a university setting
are preferred.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
