OFFICE OF SPONSORED PROGRAMS
The University of Connecticut (UConn) is seeking an exceptional
individual to fill the position of Executive Director of the newly
created Office of Sponsored Programs. Reporting to the Vice Provost
for Research and Graduate Education, the successful candidate will be
responsible for managing the institutional aspects of the UConn
extramural research enterprise, which includes a grant and contract
portfolio in excess of $80 million. The Office will manage all
aspects of pre- and post-award activities, as well as development and
negotiation of indirect cost rates and cost transfers. The Office
will also manage efforts to ensure compliance with all institutional,
state, and federal regulations, including protocols for human
subjects and animal care. Further, the Office will provide guidance
and technical support to the UConn community on externally sponsored
research opportunities, research-related administrative policies,
proposal development, and budget preparation.
The successful candidate must have a thorough understanding of all
aspects of both pre- and post-award sponsored programs
administration, preferably at a major research institution. Knowledge
of state-of-the-art electronic research administration is essential.
Also, well-developed communication skills, the ability to manage a
large office effectively, creativity in the encouragement of research
and entrepreneurship, and a high sense of self-motivation,
initiative, and follow-through are crucial. Applicants should have at
least a master's degree and extensive experience in academic research
administration. Finally, experience in financial management systems,
a thorough knowledge of cost accounting principles, and familiarity
with contract negotiation and intellectual property issues are highly
desirable.
