POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:       Director, Research and Sponsored Programs/Corporate &
Foundation Relations

STARTING DATE:  As soon as successful candidate is selected.

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Responsible for providing leadership and administering
all aspects of the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs.  Responsible
for assisting faculty with the preparation of competitive proposals for
external funding, editing proposals, researching corporate and foundation
funding sources, assisting faculty with the identification of funding
options, assisting with the development of proposal budgets, assisting
faculty with the resolution of post-award management problems, and
encouraging faculty to pursue external funds for the support of their
research and sponsored projects.  Responsible for employee supervision,
account management, and report writing.  Serves as the office's official
representative on university committees.  Reports to Assoc. VP for Graduate
Studies & Research and VP for University Advancement.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
AND/OR SPECIAL SKILLS:  Bachelor's degree required, master's degree
preferred.  Previous experience related to the operations of a sponsored
programs office desired; grant management experience may be considered as a
substitute.   Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills.  Computer
literacy required.  Understanding of basic accounting concepts required.
Knowledge of federal regulations applicable to grant management  preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred (2 professional positions and two student
interns).  Ability to work in a collegial relationship with faculty.
Ability to work periodically under high stress conditions.  Ability to work
extended hours periodically to meet deadlines.  Ability to travel
periodically.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience.
