The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) is looking to recruit for
the position of <underline>Administrative Supervisor</underline> for
the Sensory Motor Performance Program (SMPP), the largest Research
Department in the organization.  This position oversees, coordinates
and performs administrative activities related to SMPP in accordance
with Institute, Northwestern University (NU) and funding agency
policies and procedures; acts as an administrative liaison between the
Department, RIC, Northwestern University and outside agencies.=20
Responsible for the supervision of staff, students and contractual
employees for SMPP.

<underline>PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES</underline>

<fontfamily><param>Symbol</param>=85 </fontfamily>Provides assistance to
the Director in supervision of other staff members and students.  Works
closely with the Director of Grants Administration to monitor the
finances of the Department.

<fontfamily><param>Symbol</param>=85 </fontfamily>Establishes new
positions within the department and interviews candidates for SMPP
positions.

<fontfamily><param>Symbol</param>=85 </fontfamily>Develops, reviews and
updates Departmental and Institute policies relevant to the conduction
of research in SMPP, in collaboration with the Director of Grants
Administration.

<fontfamily><param>Symbol</param>=85 </fontfamily>Monitors expenses and
budgets for many cost centers for multiple grants (both RIC and NU
based) and internal funding.  Monitors and compiles accounting, budget
and purchasing reports for Director of SMPP and collaborating
departments.  Keeps and prepares regular periodic summarization report
of balances and expenditures from records on multiple research
projects.  Reconciles all responsible cost center statements with those
of accounting each month.  Serves as liaison among many departments,
particularly, Grants Administration, Accounting and Materials
Management.

availability and suitability of equipment and space needs; prepares and
submits orders to Materials Management and to Purchasing at NU.

<fontfamily><param>Symbol</param>=85 </fontfamily>Coordinates development
of special projects within SMPP.  Provides support and guidance to
investigators in the submission of grant applications, progress reports
and annual reports for renewals.

<underline>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED</underline>

<fontfamily><param>Symbol</param>=85 </fontfamily>Position requires a
professional level of knowledge generally acquired through the
completion of two years of college.  Bachelor's degree in business or
other closely related field preferred, but not required.

<fontfamily><param>Symbol</param>=85 </fontfamily>Work requires two to
four years of office management experience in order to effectively
supervise staff and coordinate administrative activities; research
administration experience is preferred; knowledge of federal policy and
procedures a plus.

<fontfamily><param>Symbol</param>=85 </fontfamily>Interpersonal skills
necessary in order to effectively interact with Institute personnel,
Northwestern University personnel and outside agencies.

<fontfamily><param>Symbol</param>=85 </fontfamily>Analytical ability
necessary in order to exercise independent judgment, independently
prepare reports and project documents and to prepare highly technical
and confidential statistical materials using specialized medical,
scientific and mathematical technology.

Sensory Motor Performance Program and Director, Grants Administration.

Administrative Assistant of the Sensory Motor Performance Program.
