RESADM-L Administration Notes... Mike Varney 14 Oct 1997 14:17 EST

It has been brought to my attention that there are several subscribers out
there asking similar questions to the list, so I'd like to address as many
as possible in this note.

First of all, my name is Mike Varney and I am the administrator of the list
as far as the technical side is concerned. My email address is
"xxxxxx@health.state.ny.us". I work in the Information Systems department
of Health Research (HRI), which is the branch of the New York State
Department of Health which handles research grants. As I am on the
computer staff, I don't really have anything (directly, at least) to do
with Grant administration. In fact, until this morning, I was not even a
subscriber to the list... <grin> So, I do all of the subscription problems
and other related issues.

The second issue is where our listserv is located. When most of you
subscribed to the list, the listserv's email address was
"xxxxxx@ALBNYDH2.BITNET". Well, after much shifting, we are finally on
the Internet, and to the best of my knowledge the BITNET address does not
work anymore. The official address of our listserv is
"xxxxxx@HEALTH.STATE.NY.US". Please send all subscription and other
commands to that address. To get a list of commands, send a note to that
address with a body just containing the word HELP.

That would make the submission address "xxxxxx@HEALTH.STATE.NY.US", and
the email alias to get to the administrators
"xxxxxx@HEALTH.STATE.NY.US". Capitalization optional of
course...

Finally, there has been an increasing number of people saying they receive
the list, but their submissions are denied, saying they are not subscribed.
This happens when your local administrators change machines (or just the
name of the machines) that are handling your email, and forward your mail
from one name to the other. Thus, you can receive the list from your old
address, but when you submit your mail is sent listing you under your new
address. Hence the errors. To solve this problem, send me an email note
(xxxxxx@health.state.ny.us) telling me you have this problem, and listing
your old email address along with your new one. I can take care of the
problem from this side.

Please contact me if you have any other questions...
