I am new to the grants field and setting up a grants office for a small
research institute. One problem I am having trouble dealing with is how to
effectively track the progress of grant opportunities.

For instance. I find a potential grant and send it out to one of the
department managers. He will notify me that it looks interesting (or not). I
will then request information, etc. etc. etc. I'm sure you have all done this.

The problem I am having is how to keep track of each of these steps,
including dates, comments, etc. Is there a program available to do this? Has
anybody developed a database to perform this function? I am using a
spreadsheet but it is unwieldy.
