Office of Sponsored Programs Development Coordinator
Western Kentucky University
Western Kentucky University's Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is seeking
applicants for the position of Development Coordinator. Salary range is
dependent upon experience and qualifications.
WKU is a comprehensive regional university with 12,000 undergraduate and 2,000
graduate (about 12,000 FTE) students in four academic colleges (Arts, Humanities
and Social Sciences; Business; Education and Behavioral Sciences; and Science,
Technology and Health), the Graduate College, and the Community College.
Bowling Green is located in South Central Kentucky 75 miles north of Nashville,
120 miles south of Louisville, and 150 miles southwest of Lexington on
Interstate 65, a primary north-south artery. Bowling Green is a community of
50,000 that is experiencing significant commercial development. The OSP
coordinates the development and submission of over 300 proposals and 250 awards
annually ($26,000,000 in proposals
and $13,000,000 in competitive awards). The OSP consists of the Director,
Development Coordinator, Grants Specialist who works primarily with post-award,
and Information Coordinator. The OSP director reports to the Vice President for
Academic Affairs; and the Development Coordinator reports to the Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide pre-award support to the campus community. A key responsibility will
be coordinating and maintaining interdisciplinary teams.
2. Develop proposals, provide electronic support, funding sources, agency
contacts, and guidelines. This position will supervise electronic sponsored
programs administration.
3. Track faculty research profiles to design and maintain the database.
4. Design pre-award workshops for faculty, staff, and students.
5. Provide the campus with a monthly report of proposals and awards; and assist
the director with quarterly and annual reports.
6. Coordinate with grant developers to locate funding sources, construct
proposal budgets, and review proposals.
7. Acquaint grant developers with sponsors' and University policies and
procedures.
8. Develop new funding sources and interact with the Information Coordinator to
inform the grant community.
9. Monitor grant developments on the Internet and from direct mail.

11. Provide content to the Information Coordinator for the OSP newsletter.
12. Attend professional meetings and disseminate results.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree required (master's preferred) with a minimum of 2-5 years
of progressive sponsored programs administration experience.
2. Demonstrated familiarity with federal and private funding sources.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and ability in electronic research administration: on-
line databases, NSF FastLane and other transaction sets, the Internet, word
processing software.
4. Strong interpersonal, supervisory, writing, and editing abilities.
5. Self-starter who can work on several projects simultaneously.
6. Ability to work with the team and to contribute to team building.
7. Demonstrated ability to coordinate interdisciplinary teams and work with
external partners (other universities, industry, public schools, and other
agencies).
