The Research Corp guidelines for the Cottrell small college grants do
suggest that "room and board" be provided by the grantee and I don't think
that RC would allow R&B as a direct cost. In the past we used to provide
R&B and continued this practice when the college started charging R&B to
dept. accounts or grants (the R&B was charged to dept accts). Some grant
sources were not willing to pay for R&B as a direct cost so a few years ago
we established a summer stipend rate (for undergrad students working
collaboratively with faculty, mentored situation) that is high enough to
enable students to pay for on or off campus room and board and most
grantors cover that costs (except for grantors whose limit for student
stipends is lower than our rate, in which case either the student accepts
the lower stipend or a college source picks up the difference).

So, to answer your question directly, we do not provide room and board as a
cost share on Research Corp grants. Anymore.
